Getting to Know Francisco Sánchez:
A Master Luthier at Solera Artisans School
At Solera Artisans School, we take great pride in having some of the finest Master luthiers on board, and today, we’re excited to introduce one of our most prominent instructors: Francisco Sánchez, who will be joining us for the August 2025 edition.
A reference for guitar makers
Francisco Sánchez is not just an experienced luthier; he’s a key figure in today’s flamenco guitar scene. His journey began in 1999, after initially working as a carpenter, a trade that gave him a technical mastery evident in every guitar he crafts. His deep understanding of wood, combined with a passion for flamenco, has made him one of the most respected guitar builders in the community.
From his workshop in Estepa (Seville), Francisco is not only building guitars but constantly exploring new techniques, materials, and designs. His workshop is a true innovation lab, where he experiments with tools and processes to refine his art continually. Each guitar that leaves his hands is the result of a relentless pursuit of excellence, giving his instruments a unique personality and distinctive character.
Interviews with the masters of Spanish guitar building
We invite you to learn more about his journey and insights in an interview he did for the Maderas Barber blog.
Francisco discusses his key influences in guitar building, the vital role of wood in crafting a high-quality instrument, and the elements that affect tuning stability. This interview is divided into several parts, and we’ll be sharing them throughout this article.

Francisco Sánchez’s Guitars: Authentic Flamenco Sound
Francisco’s guitars are crafted using the finest materials. He selects European spruce for the soundboard, while the sides and back are typically made from cypress, which gives his guitars a pure, dry, and deep flamenco sound—reminiscent of the great masters of the past. His finishes are elegant and understated, reflecting his respect for traditional building methods.
The sound of his guitars is truly impressive, even in his newer models. They mature acoustically at a fast pace, achieving a sound quality that recalls the best flamenco guitars from years gone by. Models like his 2020 guitar, sold through Solera Flamenca, stand out for their powerful, clear tone—qualities that usually take years to develop but are present from the start in his instruments
Francisco’s Guitars in Concert
One of the highlights of our Spanish Guitar Building Course is the series of private concerts that students have access to. In the 2024 edition, guitarist Toni Abellán performed a special concert using two guitars made by Francisco Sánchez. These performances are a unique opportunity for students to hear the guitars in action, played by professional musicians, and to appreciate their quality firsthand.
